Acceptable Use and Content Policy

What content is acceptable, who owns what, and how we handle images and third party tools.

Last updated All policies

In plain English

You supply the photos, testimonials and facts about your business, so you must have the right to use them and they must be true. We will not publish anything unlawful or misleading, and we never fake reviews. Images, text and branding made for you are yours once paid for. Our templates and code stay ours, and third party tools come with their own licences.

This summary is a guide only. The full policy below is what applies.

1Purpose of this policy

  1. 1.1

    This policy explains what we expect from the content you give us, what we will and will not publish, and how copyright and licences work for images, text and tools. It forms part of our Terms and Conditions.

2Content you give us

  1. 2.1

    You are responsible for the information, text, photographs, logos, testimonials and other materials you give us (your “Client Materials”). You must make sure that they are accurate and up to date, and that you have the right to give them to us and to have them published.

  2. 2.2

    Please do not send us anything you do not have permission to use. This includes images downloaded from the internet, photographs taken by someone else, logos or text belonging to another business, and music, fonts or videos you have not licensed.

  3. 2.3

    If someone appears in a photograph, or is named in a testimonial, you must have their permission for it to be published on your website and other places you ask us to use it.

  4. 2.4

    Written testimonials must be genuine, from real customers, and must not be edited to change their meaning. Photographs of work must show work that your business actually carried out.

3What we will not publish

  1. 3.1

    We will not publish, and may remove, content that:

    • is unlawful, defamatory, threatening, harassing, obscene or discriminatory;
    • is false or misleading, including claims about qualifications, accreditations, memberships, insurance, awards, experience, prices, availability or results that you cannot prove;
    • infringes someone else’s copyright, trade mark, privacy or other rights;
    • contains fake, purchased or incentivised reviews or testimonials;
    • promotes illegal products or services, or services that you are not legally allowed to offer;
    • contains malware, hidden links or anything designed to harm visitors or manipulate search engines;
    • is used to collect personal data unlawfully; or
    • would put Crello or our partners at risk of breaking the law or the rules of a platform.
  2. 3.2

    We may ask you to prove a claim before we publish it, and we may decline to publish content we are not satisfied about. We will explain why. If we have to refuse part of a project for this reason, our fees for work already done remain payable.

4Claims about your business

  1. 4.1

    Different trades and professions have rules about how they may describe themselves. For example, a business that claims to be registered, qualified or insured must be so. You are responsible for making sure everything that appears on your website and your Google Business Profile is true and lawful for your business, including any regulated claims.

  2. 4.2

    Please check your website carefully before it goes live. Approving it means you confirm that the content is accurate.

5Images and photographs

  1. 5.1

    Images included in your plan are those you supply. Starter Websites include up to 10 client supplied images and 10 written testimonials, and Trade Business and Business Pro include up to 50 of each. The SBS Scheme includes a 75 photo allowance. Additional Images and Additional Written Testimonials are available as fixed price allowances.

  2. 5.2

    Your images are yours. You give us a licence to edit, resize, compress and publish them as needed. We may optimise their file size and format for the web.

  3. 5.3

    Stock images, icons and illustrations that appear in our templates are licensed to us or free to use under their own terms. You may use them on your website, but not separately or for another purpose. If you want to use stock imagery elsewhere, ask us which licence applies.

  4. 5.4

    If you want us to source images or arrange photography or graphic design, that is extra work and is quoted separately.

6Copyright and ownership

  1. 6.1

    Your Client Materials remain yours.

  2. 6.2

    When you have paid in full, the text we have written for you, and the logos, colours and fonts we have created for you, belong to you. We keep ownership of our templates, layouts, code and tools, and you are licensed to use them as part of your website. See clause 8 of our Terms and Conditions for the full wording.

  3. 6.3

    Our website templates, designs, code and written content on crello.co.uk are protected by copyright. Please do not copy them without our written permission.

7Third party tools and platforms

  1. 7.1

    We use third party tools, such as website building platforms, design tools, email providers, hosting networks and form handlers. When we use them for you, their licences and terms apply. If you want to keep using a tool after you stop working with us, you may need your own account and licence.

  2. 7.2

    We do not control third party tools. If they change features, prices or terms, we will tell you if it affects your service.

  3. 7.3

    Some tools are free to use. Others, such as paid plugins, booking platforms and fonts, have fees that are not included in our prices.

8Using our website and Client Portal

  1. 8.1

    When you use crello.co.uk or the Client Portal, you must not:

    • try to gain access to parts of our systems or other people’s accounts;
    • send spam, malware or anything harmful through our forms or portal;
    • overload our systems or interfere with their operation;
    • copy or scrape our content in bulk; or
    • use our systems to break the law.
  2. 8.2

    We may block access if you do.

9Reporting a problem

  1. 9.1

    If you think content on a website we built infringes your rights or is unlawful, please tell us at support@crello.co.uk, with the web address and an explanation of the problem. We will look into it promptly, and we may remove the content while we do.

10Consequences

  1. 10.1

    If you break this policy, we may refuse or remove content, pause work or end the Agreement, as set out in our Terms and Conditions. We will, where we can, give you a chance to put things right first.
